The carousel was dedicated on July 12, 1983 and was originally housed under a 50 foot diameter canopy. This required the dismantling of the carousel each winter and precluded use for special winter events. Six years later, on November 24, 1989, the Carousel building was dedicated at a public ceremony. Today, the building not only houses the carousel, but also; display cases containing carousel memorabilia, benches for those watching others ride, wall display cases containing more carousel memorbilia and educational materials. A wrought iron fence surrounds the carousel and a wooden ticket booth built in the C.W. Parker style is located just inside the front doors. Items on loan from individuals and organizations are also displayed at different times. During special event weekends the
Friends of Crossroads Village Carousel frequently sell refreshments and
souveniers. T-shirts and sweatshirts decorated with the Friends' logo
are also available. |
