I still do

My love never flagged
through the long months.
Nothing made it waver.
My knees may have wobbled,
but my heart never did.

The hardest to endure
was watching you suffer.
I did what I could.
It was never enough.
I couldn't fix you.

We couldn't beat it.
Neither could the doctors.
But, oh, how you tried.
You were so strong -
constantly amazing.

I couldn't help myself.
Not for a moment.
Oh, how I loved.
For whatever it's worth,
I still do…
